Helical Pier Training Questions, Answered by the People Who Teach It

What the training costs, what it covers, what equipment you already own, what the certificate is and is not, and what happens after you leave. Written for excavation crews, pool contractors and installers deciding whether to bring pier work in-house.

Who is teaching you

FnD Piers manufactures the piers, installs them, and runs the training. The person walking you through torque criteria has stood in front of the inspector on their own jobs. That matters because an improperly installed pier fails as a foundation element regardless of how well it was made, which is why we treat training as part of selling the product rather than an upsell. Technical questions about the piers themselves are on the contractor FAQ.

Choosing a route

What helical pier training does FnD Piers offer?

Three routes, depending on how you want to work with us.

  • The Helical Trade School, online. Covers the safety practices and precise techniques that prevent costly mistakes, with optional in-person training and certification afterwards.
  • A four-hour hands-on session when you buy piers from us wholesale. Bundled with 24/7 phone support and business mentorship rather than sold separately.
  • The one-day program in North Fort Worth. $6,500 total, which includes a $4,000 credit toward helical pier product. Built for pool excavators and crews bringing pier work in-house.

Which route is right for my crew?

It depends on whether you are buying product, changing your business, or learning the trade.

If you are a contractor adding helical capability alongside a wholesale pier order, the four-hour session comes with the purchase. If you are a pool excavator or dirt crew that wants pier work as a new revenue line, the one-day program is built for exactly that, and $4,000 of the price comes back as product credit for your next job. If you want to learn the trade on your own schedule first, start with the online Trade School and add the in-person portion when you are ready.

Do I need prior experience to take the training?

The programs are built for working crews, and the curriculum assumes construction fundamentals rather than pier experience.

What helps you get the most out of it: basic construction knowledge, some familiarity with how soil and loads behave, awareness of the equipment involved, and a safety mindset. The training covers the pier-specific parts, from installation workflow to torque criteria, and the online Trade School includes ground-hand fundamentals for people newer to the work.

The one-day program

What does the one-day program cost, and what do I walk away with?

$6,500 total, and it includes a $4,000 credit toward helical pier product, so your next job is stocked.

The day runs hands-on in North Fort Worth. Bring your crew lead. You leave with the product in your trailer, the install workflow in your head, and a phone line to the people who manufactured the piers.

What does the training actually cover?

The full install workflow, torque specifications, and load capacity, taught in plain English.

The online Trade School curriculum runs deeper on fundamentals: foundation repair principles, helical installation, safety practices including PPE and site procedures, ground hand basics, and slurry hole drilling. Across every route the point is the same: installing to a torque criterion rather than to a depth, and knowing why, is what separates a pier that carries its design load from one that only looks installed.

What equipment do I need to install helical piers?

Most crews already own about 90 percent of it. A skid steer, mini-excavator or excavator does most of the work.

The pier-specific additions are a hydraulic drive head and torque monitoring, because piers are rotated in until they achieve the torque the design calls for. If you run an excavation business, the machine you dig with is the machine that installs.

When is the next class, and how do I book?

Scheduling is arranged directly: call (817) 402-7113 and we will walk you through dates, what to bring, and how the product gets staged for your next job.

There is no published class calendar; sessions are arranged around the crews signing up.

Certification

Do I get a certification when I finish?

Through the Helical Trade School route, yes: the online coursework offers optional in-person training and certification afterwards.

The certification documents that you trained on the manufacturer's install workflow and torque criteria, which is what a builder or engineer asking "who trained your crew" wants to hear answered. If a certificate matters to how you sell your work, say so when you book and we will point you at the route that carries one.

Is the certification a license, or recognized outside FnD Piers?

No. It is a manufacturer training certification issued by FnD Piers, not a license and not an industry or association credential.

Texas does not license foundation repair contractors at the state level, so no training program can honestly sell you a license. What governs your work in practice is the engineered design, the authority having jurisdiction in your municipality, and the engineer of record's acceptance, and what the training gives you is the workflow and torque criteria that get your installations through exactly those checks.

After the training

What support do I get after the training ends?

Direct phone support from the manufacturer, 24 hours a day. If a job runs into trouble, we come to the site.

Support is not a ticket queue: the people answering have installed piers. Wholesale training customers also get business mentorship, which covers building pier work into a profit center rather than just learning to install, from working with engineers and builders to managing your reputation.

How do I get piers once I am trained?

Order from us directly. Standard lead time is 3 days, jobsite delivery is free, and delivery covers Texas and surrounding states. We also ship nationwide.

Our installed per-pier price ranges are published with their assumptions on the pricing page, and the ordering details are on the contractor FAQ. Have your pier count and design loads ready and a quote comes back quickly.

What can pier work realistically add to an excavation business?

The pier work you currently sub out becomes a line on your own invoice, and you stop waiting on a pier sub to keep your schedule.

Crews we have trained have reported adding several hundred thousand dollars in revenue and roughly $200,000 in profit by installing their own piers; those are their reported results, not a promise about yours. The structural logic is the durable part: you already own the equipment, the training converts into product, and every pier you install yourself is margin you used to hand to a subcontractor.

Ready to stop subbing out pier work?

One day of training, a $4,000 product credit, and a phone line to the manufacturer. Call and we will walk you through scheduling and what to bring.
